A man has died and two other people have been injured after a nighttime stabbing in northern NSW.

Police were called to a home in McKenzie Street, Lismore, around 11:10 p.m. Friday over welfare concerns.

Upon arrival, officers found three people: two men, ages 24 and 60, and a woman in her thirties with stab wounds.

The younger man died on the spot, despite the efforts of the emergency services

The elderly man and woman were taken to Lismore Base Hospital.

The older man was in a stable condition with a cut on his neck.

The woman was in stable condition with a cut on her arm.

All three people were acquaintances.

Richmond Police Department officers have identified a crime scene and are investigating the incident.
