- Passkeys for Messenger will also be available soon
Meta has introduced passkey support for Facebook on mobile devices that will significantly reduce the chance of someone hacking your account.
Instead of using an awkward and easy -guessed password to log in, you can now use a fingerprint, face or pin to check whether you will register with your account.
Better yet, passkeys are often faster to use than passwords, which means that your entire Facebook experience should be even easier.
Facebook gets passkeys
Passkeys for Facebook on iOS and Android mobile devices “will be available soon”, Meta saidWith Passkeys for Messenger also released in the “coming months”.
Passkeys are a much more resilient alternative to passwords and one-off codes because they cannot be stolen and much less susceptible to malignant sites that want to steal your login data, such as Typepal-squat domains. They can also be a good alternative to using one Password manager That constantly requires back and forth between apps to enter your password.
Your passkey will be stored locally on your device, which means that Meta has no access to it. An unhappy disadvantage of Passkeys is that if you lose your mobile device that your passkey stores, this can be a bit of a hassle that comes back in your account and set up a new passkey.
Meta has also announced that passkeys will also be used to verify payments via Meta payment, and will soon also be used to protect your encrypted messagebacks as soon as Passkeys arrived for Messenger.
Go to the settings menu on the Facebook app to set a passkey and then click Accounts Center → Password and security → Key. If passkeys are available, Facebook can even ask you to set one the next time you log in.
