Code spotted in the newest Pixel watch App for Android suggests that there is a new function for the Google Pixel Watch 3 And older models: the option to have your phone locked automatically when it is out of reach of your smartwatch.
This code was found by the team at Android AuthorityAnd although it has not yet been switched on – and there is not yet a word about when it could be – the function would be a useful security upgrade if you connect a pixel guard to an Android smartphone.
The idea is that if someone wipe your phone without you knowing it, or if you leave your handset without realizing it, you would have the reassurance that your phone would automatically lock itself.
According to the newly discovered code, this function can be called ‘lock on disconnect’ or something in that sense. With a little tweaking, one user has succeeded in making the setting appear in their Pixel Watch app.
This is not something that is currently offered by another portable at the moment – including the Best Apple -watches -Although you can of course lock an Android phone remotely at any time using the Find My Device service from Google.
Without an official announcement about this position, it is difficult to predict when we might roll it out. Nothing was said to the recent Google I/O 2025 Conference, but Google tends to roll out software updates throughout the year.
Probably, as soon as the function goes live for Pixel Watch devices, it can then be pushed into the code for Wear Os. Which then make wearables possible, such as the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 And Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra To take advantage of it.
What you can already do with your pixel watch is to unlock your smartphone: so if the watch is nearby, you do not have to continue to unlock your phone. This would be a useful extra function to add to it as soon as it ultimately rolls out.
