Your Wear OS watch is getting a weather upgrade soon from the Pixel Watch 3
In addition to the new Pixel Watch 3 that launched earlier this month, Google also released a revamped Weather Tile for watch faces that shows more meteorological information. The tile is now apparently available for older Wear OS devices as well.
This comes from 9to5Google And Android Authorityand it looks like many users are seeing the new tile appear on their wrists. The tile should appear on smartwatches running at least Wear OS 3 (launched in August 2021).
It’s unclear whether this has to do with an update to the Google Weather app on Android, or if it’s enabled by a switch that Google flipped. Either way, you should see it on your own wearable soon, if you haven’t already.
The main change here is the addition of a mini-hourly forecast below the main information for temperature and current conditions. This forecast shows the next three or four hours, depending on the size of the dial.
Take the weather with you
As before, tapping the Weather tile still takes you to the full Weather app on your wrist, where you can view more details, including a sunrise and sunset schedule and the chance of precipitation in your area.
Another change rolling out to Google’s latest smartwatch (see our Google Pixel Watch 3 hands-on for more) is a more comprehensive Exercise Tile that links to the Fitbit app, though we haven’t seen it appear on other Wear OS devices yet.
It seems like someone at Google is very interested in the weather right now: the main Google Weather app for Android has been updated for the Pixel 9 phones, but isn’t officially available for other devices yet.
The new and improved app includes a number of improved widgets, notifications about upcoming weather changes, and a weather map reminiscent of the old Dark Sky app.
