17-month-old girl and man, 50, killed after their car collided with Mini before crashing into tree in horror crash in Tarleton

A TODDLER and a man have been killed in a horrific car crash, with police now pleading with witnesses to come forward.

The fatal collision occurred at 8.26am this morning when a Land Rover Discovery collided with a Mini Cooper and then a tree on Hesketh Lane, Tarleton.

A 50-year-old man and a 17-month-old girl were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mini was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Sergeant Matt Davidson, of Lancashire Constabulary's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “These are terribly sad and tragic circumstances that have led to the deaths of a man and a young girl this morning. Our thoughts are very much with their loved ones at this terrible time.

“We ask that you refrain from online speculation and would like to thank members of the local community for their patience and understanding while our officers conducted their investigations today.

“We are now appealing to you, the public, if you have dashcam or CCTV footage of Hesketh Lane or the surrounding areas between 8:00 and 8:30 this morning, to get in touch.

“We believe there are people who may have witnessed the collision, or the white Land Rover Discovery in the moments before, who we have not yet spoken to.

“If you are, or you know someone who may have witnessed this collision, please contact us.”
