New Delhi: The number of road accidents has increased in recent years and despite strict traffic rules, there are people who break these rules and those who pay for it are not to blame. In an extremely unfortunate accident, three people were killed while three were injured after a speeding dumper truck rammed into a small tea stall, more like a dhaba in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh. The accident was reported on Saturday evening and the identification of the deceased has not yet been made; however, the dumper driver has been arrested and relief and rescue efforts continue.

Dump truck rams into tea stall, killing 3

As reported earlier, three people were killed and three injured when a speeding truck rammed into a tea stall in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening, police said. “We received information that a truck had rammed into a tea stall. As per information so far, three persons have died due to the incident and three have been injured and are under treatment,” Etawah Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjay Kumar Verma said while talking to reporters.

Driver arrested, relief and rescue efforts underway

“The truck has a Jharkhand registration plate. We have taken possession of it. Once we arrived on the scene, we started providing relief. Relief and rescue operations are underway,” the Etawah SSP added. Verma further said that the deceased have not yet been identified, adding that the truck driver has been arrested and was found to be drunk. According to preliminary investigations, the accident appears to have happened because the driver was drunk, he said, adding that an investigation is underway.

Statement by Etawah DM Avnish Rai

Etawah District Magistrate (DM) Avnish Rai said the truck collided with a tea stall near the Manikpur border crossing. “The truck has a Jharkhand registration plate. This rammed into the store. Three people are dead and three are injured and have been sent to the district hospital,” Avnish Rai said. “The truck has been removed from the site. After investigation we will know why the accident occurred. It has now been two and a half to two hours since the incident took place. The bodies have been recovered,” the DM said.
