FORTY migrants cram precariously into a rubber boat – one of eight Channel crossings that sees as many as 327 illegal arrivals in a single day.

Young men, many without life jackets, straddled the sides of inflatables as they made the journey from France in choppy waters yesterday, the same day a seven-year-old girl died while attempting the crossing.
