7th Pay Commission Latest news today: Just ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, government employees of two states have received a huge hike in animal allowance, which will give a big boost to their salaries. This week, the West Bengal government announced a 4% DA hike for the state employees during the budget presentation. Following this, the Uttar Pradesh government announced a 10% hike for the state employees. Check how much salary will increase for the government employees of both states.

UP Govt increases DA by 10%

This week, the Yogi Adityanath government approved a 10% increase in animal allowance for regular road workers, after which it will be 38 percent for them. The state government's move will benefit nearly 12,000 employees.

The decision on the hike rate was taken after several representations and representations by the Uttar Pradesh Roadways Employees Union.

In his clarification, State Transport Corporation PRO Ajit Singh said the 10% DA hike has finally been approved and it will impose an additional expenditure burden of Rs 7.5-8 crore on the state.

The state employees can avail the DA increment, the basic pay of which ranges from Rs 3,000 to Rs 15,000 depending on the basic scale.

West Bengal increases DA by 4%

During the budget presentation, West Bengal announced a 4% DA hike for the state employees and said that with this hike, the previous DA rate of 10% has now been increased to 14%, providing a financial boost to the government employees.

Apart from this, the state government in the budget also unveiled an improvement in financial assistance under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme. As part of the scheme, general category households will now receive Rs 1,000 while SC/ST households will receive Rs 1,200.

The development comes at a time when central government employees are awaiting an announcement on the DA hike from the Centre. Meanwhile, speculation is rife that central government employees will soon get two big gifts from the Center – one is an increase in animal allowance and another could be the release of 18-month debt arrears. If reports are to be believed, these two gifts will lead to a huge salary hike for central government employees.

What is dearness benefit and dearness relief?

Central government employees must keep in mind that the duration allowance is a part of the salary that is aimed at mitigating the effects of inflation. The effective salary of government employees is periodically revised to cope with rising inflation. The Center reviews the DA twice a year – in January and July.
