Manoj Muntashir decides to revamp ‘offensive’ dialogue amid backlash: ‘My own brothers abused my mother’

Adipurush row: Adipurush is getting a lot of backlash despite its massive opening at the worldwide box office. The film was initially criticized for its poor quality VFX and misrepresentation of Ramayan characters. After the release, the public expressed their outrage on social media. The creators have been on the receiving end of memes and trolls for a long time. Adipurush dialogue writer and poet Manoj Muntashir had previously defended the dialogues saying, “It is not a mistake. Writing the dialogues for Bajrang Bali has been a painstaking process. We made it simple because you have to understand one thing: there are multiple characters in the movie and they can’t all speak the same language.” After the backlash over his statement, Muntashir not only agreed to revive the dialogues, but also wrote a lengthy emotional post dedicated to the audience.

Muntashir captioned his tweet as: “The first lesson one can learn from Ramkatha is to respect every emotion. Right or wrong, time changes, feeling remains. I wrote dialogues over 4000 lines in Adipurush, some feelings got hurt on 5 lines. In those hundreds of lines, glorifying Shri Ram, describing Maa Sita’s chastity, there was also praise for her, which I don’t know why I didn’t get it. My own brothers wrote indecent words for me on social media. The same mine, for whose respected mothers I read poems many times on TV, addressed my own mother with indecent words. I kept thinking, there may be differences, but where did my brothers suddenly become so bitter that they forgot to see Shri Ram who considered every mother his mother. Sitting at the feet of Shabri, as if sitting at the feet of Kaushalya.” He further added: “It is possible that in a 3-hour movie for 3 minutes I wrote something different from your imagination, but I couldn’t understand why you were in such a hurry to write Sanatan-Drohi on my forehead. Didn’t you hear the song Jai Shri RamNot heard ShivahamNot heard Ram Siya Ram? These hymns of Sanatan in Adipurush are also born from my pen. I also wrote Terri Mitti And Des Mere. I have no complaints with you, you were, are and will remain mine. If we go head to head, Sanatan will lose. We have made Adipurush for Sanatan Seva, whom you see in great numbers and I am sure you will see in the future.”

The writer concluded when he opined: “Why this message? Because to me there is nothing greater than your feeling. I can give countless arguments for my dialogues, but this will not lessen your pain. Me and the producer-director of the film have decided that we will review some of the dialogue that hurts you and add it to the film this week. May Shri Ram bless you all! #Adipurush #JaiShreeRam.”

Adipurush released in theaters on 16 June 2023 and stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage in pivotal roles.
