ALDI will close a UK store next week to revitalize its aisles – a huge new era for the supermarket.

Lovers of the cheap grocer in Renfrewshire will be saddened to hear that the tills will be shut down next month.

That's because Aldi will close its Erskine store at 8pm on Thursday, March 14, until 8am on March 21.

A spokesperson for the German retail giant said it was “renovation work”.

They added: “When we reopen at 8am on Thursday, March 21, the store will be in our new layout.”

This provides 'more space' for the fresh, refrigerated and food-to-go range.

In addition, the entire store will be “much brighter with simpler layouts,” Aldi pointed out.

This week the supermarket introduced an Irish cream that tastes like a Cadbury's Cream Egg.

Limited Edition Ballycastle Chocolate Crème is described as “a wonderfully smooth Irish Cream blend with delicate hints of chocolate and sweet vanilla.”

It follows months of changes at the supermarket, including the removal of wooden forks from the Food to Go range, which includes sushi, salads and pasta pots.

Aldi said this measure, which is being rolled out across all of its 990 stores, will prevent 28 tonnes of cutlery from being thrown into the bin.

The Aldi store in Thetford closed its doors on October 14 and reopened a few weeks later.

Still, people were so upset that they threatened to boycott the store's reopening.

Similarly, Aldi closed another branch in Sheerness city center in November.

However, Aldi has confirmed that its customers will not be without a store for long.

The retailer announced plans to open its new £9 million store in Neats Court, Queenborough, in April.

The new multi-million complex is located opposite the Queenborough retail park and will be a third larger than the existing building with 134 parking spaces – 59 more than in Sheerness.

After the major retailer opened its 1,000th store, Aldi announced plans for its next phase of expansion, which will include a further 500 stores.

The retailer said: “It is a long-term goal and does not put a ceiling on our ambition to have an Aldi store close to everyone in Britain.”

However, as Aldi hopes to expand, many other popular retailers have struggled in recent years.

Energy costs have risen and more consumers than ever are choosing to order online instead of going to the store.

This leaves some retailers struggling with budgets and having no choice but to close stores to cut costs.

Homebase closed a store last year, leaving just 93 stores since its acquisition by Hilco Capital in 2018.

Poundstretcher closed several stores last year, but also opened new stores in closed Wilko stores.

Even charity shops are struggling. Oxfam confirmed last year that it would close eight of its UK stores.

Clintons, Boots, HMV and Halfords are among the chains closing their stores.
