Anthony Mackie Reveals He Was So Nervous Shooting With Harrison Ford For Captain America: Brave New World He Forgot His Lines

Anthony Mackie has had a long and distinguished career in Hollywood in the more than 20 years since making his screen debut alongside Eminem in the semi-biographical drama 8 Mile (2002).

But even with more than 60 films worth of experience since then, the 44-year-old actor found himself so nervous about working opposite him. Harrison Ford on Captain America: Brave New World that he couldn’t remember the script prior to their first day shooting together.

“The first day was so intimidating. I was so nervous that I couldn’t remember my lines. He’s Harrison fucking Ford,” Mackie initially confessed his on-set experience.

But he would continue to praise the Hollywood icon for putting him at ease, getting the best out of everyone involved in the production, including Mackie.

“He’s Harrison fucking Ford. There is an aura around him. But he dispels that really quickly because he’s such a cool dude,” Mackie revealed, as reported by Variety.

He’s everything a movie star should be. He’d say, “Let’s shoot this piece of shit.” And everyone was like, “Yeah, let’s shoot this sh*t.”‘

The film stars Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who has become the President of the United States after previously serving as a United States Army General and then as the United States Secretary of State.

Actually, Ford is a newcomer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, replacing the late actor William Hurt, who played Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross three times, after his death in March 2022 at the age of 71.

As for Mackie, he played the Marvel Comics character Sam Wilson/Captain America three times: Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), this is the first time he the title role in a feature film.

“We spent a lot of time together,” Mackie added. “Ross and Cap have always had that relationship where they were friends and respected each other, but they always bumped into each other. That’s their relationship in the storyline.”

Directed by Julius Onah from a screenplay he co-wrote with Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, the superhero movie is the fourth installment in the Captain America franchise.

It is also a continuation of the TV miniseries The Falcon And The Winter Soldier (2021).

For the most part, plot details for Captain America 4 have been largely kept under wraps.

Captain America: Brave New World has just finished shooting in Atlanta, having begun principal photography on March 21.

Captain America: Brave New World will premiere in theaters on May 3, 2024.

The film, the 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be part of Phase Five of the MCU.
