Liverpool were denied a penalty by VAR the last time the two met after Martin Odegaard appeared to handle the ball in the penalty area

It is the second time in a few weeks that both teams have faced each other in the competition.

Their 1-1 draw last time out was overshadowed by controversy after Liverpool were denied a penalty by Martin Odegaard for what appeared to be a handball in the penalty area.

Mohamed Salah had tried to put the ball around Odegaard when it hit the Arsenal captain's arm.

But after assessing the incident, VAR David Coote decided not to award a penalty to Liverpool.

The decision was later reviewed by head referee Howard Webb of Match Officials Mic'd Up, who revealed it SHOULD was a penalty.

And as the Emirates Stadium prepares to host the reverse fixture this weekend, David Coote has been chosen as VAR for the match again despite his incorrect decision.

Fans cannot believe that Coote has been selected again for the same match just six weeks after making such a high-profile mistake.

On social media, someone wrote: “You can't actually make this up!”

While another said: “Make it meaningful.”

A third simply wrote: “Just kidding.”

And a fourth joked: “Mortgage on decisions that go in Liverpool's direction in that case!”

The game is about as high-pressure as it gets as both teams fight for their lives in the title race.

Liverpool currently sit at the top of the table, with Arsenal just five points behind in third place.

But before the pair meet in north London this weekend, they will both have to get through their Premier League matches in midweek.

Arsenal travel to Nottingham Forest tonight, while Liverpool face the tough task of hosting Chelsea at Anfield.
