New Delhi: Ahead of David Warner set to play his final Test match on Wednesday when Australia played Pakistan at SCG, his opening partner and childhood friend Usman Khawaja was left moved as the left-handed batsman got emotional while speaking about him at the press conference.

“It’s quite special and quite emotional; I didn’t see that. You don’t see that side of Davey at all. Obviously he doesn’t show you that side when he plays. He is a fierce competitor. You see the Bull and you see him go out there and play hard, and I’ve known him for a long time, and I know that side of him,” Khawaja told Fox Cricket.

In 111 Tests since his debut in 2011, Warner has scored 8,695 runs at an average of 44.6, including 26 fifties and 36 half-centuries. the size.

Khawaja also spoke about how he feels about Warner ending his Test and ODI career.

“Playing together and being together for so long, the journey is crazy and part of that journey is coming to an end. He has retired from playing Test cricket and One-day Internationals and he has put so much time and effort into it and so much heart, soul and tears go into it.”

“There are so many ups and downs and so much to it, I think, when you come to the realization that it’s going to end, especially if you can share that with a childhood friend. And now that we have our own children, it’s strange to come full circle.”

“You look back on it and you get quite emotional thinking about it because you think, how lucky are we to be doing this? Not just to play for Australia, but to do it together is very special,” he explains.

Khawaja recalled his memories of Warner as a cricket-playing child who dreamed of playing for Australia and believes he has not changed from his childhood. “He has that personality about him, he’s a bit like Warnie, he’s polarizing. As Warnie was and many Australians love Warnie.

“There were a lot of people I grew up with who didn’t like Warnie, and there were people on both sides, very polarizing. Davey is the same. He is very polarizing. You either love him or you don’t. There’s really nothing in the middle. But I’ve known Davey for so long since we were five or six years old.

“You can’t judge people just based on what happens on the field. You can’t judge people you played against on the field. Unless you actually play with them and are on that team and get to know them, it’s really hard to say, this is what this person is like, because what happens on the field is so different from how people are off the field. .”

“Off the field, he is one of the most giving people I have ever met. He sits down with random people all the time and talks to them like a regular Australian guy. You would have no idea that he is a Test cricketer and one of the greats of the game.
