‘You would think you were in a tropical country’: Travelers say THIS ‘awesome’ British beach with turquoise waters, secret caves and waterfalls resembles the Seychelles

This breathtaking British beach is mistaken for a tropical paradise.

Nanjizal Beach, a boulder-covered stretch of sand sheltered by cliffs, lies along the Cornish coast, about 10 miles from Penzance.

At one end of the beach there is a distinctive stone gorge called Song of the Sea – or ‘Zawn Pyg’ – which is surrounded by rock pools. In addition to its allure, the beach is known for its turquoise waters and waterfalls.

Tripadvisor users have taken to the review platform to rave about the Cornish idyll. Reviewer ‘TravelUK’ wrote: ‘When the weather is nice, it looks great, almost like [the] Seychelles.’

Reviewer ‘tootusCornwall’, meanwhile, weighed in with, “This place is breathtaking, peaceful, tranquil, and awe-inspiring. You would think you were in a tropical country… the pool around the rocks was turquoise in color.’

A third review, left by user Glenn and Cameron Broughton read: ‘Stunning bay with sand… azure water and fantastic cliffs – what more could you want?’

Recently travel blogger Jack Jeffs shared a video from the beach on TikTok which has been viewed almost 300,000 times. In it, he explains the water in the rock pools as “crystal clear” and adds, “It’s such a refreshing experience [to swim] Through’.

In the comments below, TikTok user Toby stated, “I refuse to believe this is in Britain.”

Access to the beach, also known as Mill Bay, is tricky – it’s only accessible by foot. It is just off the South West Coastal Path, a 1,000-kilometre coastal route that runs from Minehead in Somerset to Poole Harbor in Dorset.

Local guide Cornwall beaches says, ‘Its relative inaccessibility has left Nanjizal more or less untouched and never gets crowded. There is an abundance of caves and interesting rock formations for those not satisfied with the view.’

This dramatic setting clearly has a cinematic content, such as scenes from Doctor Who were filmed on the beach in the 1960s – in one scene a Tardis appears on the sand.

Cornwall Beaches adds that visitors have a chance to spot seals off the coast during a visit. You can also see wild ponies grazing nearby.

To reach the beach, visitors can walk the coastal path from nearby Land’s End to the north or from Porthgwarra Beach to the south. Alternatively, they can park their car inland in the village of Trevescan and take the approximately hour-long drive to the coast. A steep path eventually leads travelers to the beach.

It is worth noting that there is no lifeguard on the beach, so bathers should take extra care when swimming.
