New dawn! BBC Breakfast presenters reveal ‘state-of-the-art’ studio after re-vamp – but the show’s iconic red sofa remains

The BBC Breakfast presenters have revealed the show is getting a makeover, with the team broadcasting from a brand new studio from Monday.

The daytime show’s hosts unveiled its first studio makeover in over a decade, with regular host Jon Kay posting a photo of himself and co-star Sally Nugent posing for a selfie in the state-of-the-art studio.

Captioning the image on Instagram, he said: ‘First glimpse of our new #bbcbreakfast studio. I can’t wait to share it with you on Monday.”

The new multi-purpose studio, which will be used from Monday, will be shared with BBC Sport in Salford’s Media City, with Kay saying it will be used for broadcasting ’20 hours a day’.

Nugent said: ‘We recently celebrated our 40th anniversary and this is a great gift to celebrate the occasion.’

The studio is in a larger space and retains the program’s red sofa, which will also be used by presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt.

Kay said: ‘Our new studio is state of the art and we couldn’t be happier with it.

“We look forward to offering audiences the same BBC breakfast they know and love, in a fresh new setting.”

The daily Sportsday programme, live bulletins for BBC One and BBC News and BBC iPlayer’s Football News Show are also broadcast from the site.

Multiple teams sharing the studio is part of the company’s move to “provide the best value for the audience.”

Helen Brown, senior news editor for Sport, said: ‘The new studio is a brilliant update that will completely improve and revolutionize our output.

‘Showing the BBC’s original journalism, live action, talk points and human interest stories, Sportsday is one of the best performing programs on any news channel in the UK.’
