Bombay: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday invited new applications to fill a vacant position on the men’s selection committee, setting a June 30 deadline for submission.

The move comes after Chetan Sharma stepped down as chief selector in February following a sting operation carried out by a TV news channel where he shared internal information about the team and the selection process. It was Sharma’s second term as chairman of selectors, which expired in less than two months after taking charge in January this year.

With Sharma’s resignation, the selection committee was reduced to four functioning members, with Shiv Sunder Das taking the lead as interim chief selector and working alongside Salil Ankola, Subroto Banerjee and S Sharath.

The BCCI said the qualification and experience criteria for applicants is that they must have played at least seven tests or 30 first-class matches, or 10 ODI and 20 first-class matches. The applicant should have retired from the game at least five years ago and has not been a member of any BCCI cricket committee for five years.

The board also listed the applicant’s main duties and responsibilities: select the best possible team in a fair and transparent manner, plan and prepare a strong bench strength for the senior men’s team, and attend team meetings when necessary.

It added that the applicant will be required to travel to watch domestic and international matches, and prepare and provide evaluation reports of respective team performance to BCCI’s top council on a quarterly basis.

The candidate will also address the media regarding team selection as and when directed by the BCCI, designate the team captain in any format, and abide by the rules and regulations of the BCCI. Post the deadline which ends at 6pm on 30th June, the screening/shortlist of applications will take place.

Thereafter, the shortlisted candidates will be called for face-to-face interviews for further evaluation which will be done by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) composed of Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape who himself was a former selector in the MSK Prasad- lED panel.

The BCCI has also invited applicants for one post of Head of Sports Science and Medicine/Academy Physio for each National Cricket Association in the country, with an age limit of 50 years.

They have named five years working experience as a state senior physio in Ranji Trophy or eight years experience working in a high performance sports team of the suitable candidate, with previous experience working in cricket teams and a postgraduate qualification specializing in musculoskeletal physiotherapy/ Sports and Exercise Medicine/Sports Rehabilitation/Sports Physiotherapy listed among desirable qualifications.

The aim of the role, as stated by the BCCI, is for the candidate to become an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team expected to deliver the highest standards of professional care in a confidential manner and possess the ability to physiotherapy and strength and conditioning training (S&C) team charged with peak performance.

The candidate will also have working relationships with the Head of Sports Science and Sports Medicine, Director of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, as well as medical experts, coaching staff of the Indian team, NCA, state associations, sports science and sports medical team members of the state cricket association and captains of the respective teams.
