Plenty of films that capture the many different feelings that come with New Year’s Eve, whether you’re focused on finding the right person to kiss at midnight or just want to drink champagne with your loved ones.
One of those films is the first Sex and the city movie. In a scene from the 2008 hit, a single Carrie goes to bed early on New Year’s Eve. Meanwhile, Miranda is all alone in Brooklyn and calls Carrie. Although Miranda says not to come over, Carrie arrives just in time for midnight.
“The idea of being single on New Year’s Eve has always been treacherous for everyone,” says director Michael Patrick Kingtold Entertainment weekly in 2020. “There’s something about that rose of midnight that almost makes it necessary for you to check in with yourself. You should be in love at midnight. You’re supposed to be in a couple. That’s why it’s so great for Sex and the citybecause at any time we could highlight what society says versus the reality of where people are was always powerful.
Parker also loved the scene and narration EW“I loved it because it wasn’t about words, it was just about this desperate need to connect with someone who really matters to you.”
