Millions of Brits will pay an extra £100 in bills under plans for huge tax changes

HOUSEHOLDS will face another five per cent council tax increase this spring, meaning a £100 increase in bills.

The £2 billion raid comes amid a growing financial crisis in council estates.

The Leveling Up department will therefore probably give municipalities the green light to increase taxes by the maximum possible 4.99 percent from April.

Any higher increase would require local voters' approval by referendum.

That would likely add around £100 to a typical Band D council tax bill, according to the Guardian.

It comes after Michael Gove last week unveiled an additional £600m bailout package for local government, as councils across England struggle with inflation and poor governance.

Labor has accused the government of trying to 'plug the cracks'.

From February, millions of people will no longer have to pay a household bill for two months.

This is because council tax is usually paid over 10 months rather than 12 months.

If you pay your council tax in 10 instalments, you will be rewarded with 60 days without having to pay.

This falls in February and March and means that you will not receive a bill in these months.
