AN AMERICAN hairstylist has left British women grimacing after endorsing a £14 “British hairdryer” tool.

Matt Newman claimed a certain heated styler creates “magical” curls… but the Brits insist it's “just for grandmas”.

The hair expert, also known as Matt Loves Hair, shared a tutorial on the Revlon Tangle Free Hot Air Styler, calling it a “British blow-dry brush.”

He bought the tool for £13.99 in Boots and wondered: “Why don't we have these in America?”

Matt demonstrated how to create tight curls with the heated styler on TikTok, but received an influx of comments from confused Brits.

And it wasn't just those who said the tool is “just for grandmas”; some revealed it “traumatized” them as teenagers.

“So many girls in Britain had their hair all messed up [in that] as a teenager and are still traumatized,” wrote Sian Purs.

“I still have one of those from 2004 in my hair,” Megan Linds echoed.

But the most common comment from British women was that their first encounter with one of the tools was in their grandmother's bedroom… and it was not a pretty sight.

“I'm a British girl and my grandmother had one when I was growing up,” said Anna Carey.

“I remember it pulling on my scalp as a kid and getting tangled in it.”

Another woman joked that she “can still feel the pain when her grandmother gets stuck in her hair.”

Louise Kirk explained that her grandmother, who is in her 70s, “has always done her hair” with the tools.

“My grandma loves hers,” Olivia Leigh added.

“We give her a new one every few years because she uses it so much.”

According to Revlon bosses, the “versatile styler is perfect for adding body to any hairstyle”.

It has two heat and speed settings for drying and flexible styling.

There are also two brush heads: a 19mm brush head for tighter curls and waves in shorter hairstyles, and a 25mm brush head to create full curls and waves in all hairstyles.

It appears Revlon has updated the design of its iconic brushes, which customers claim date back to the 1970s, as Matt's recommended tool has a 'curl release switch' to ensure tangle-free curls.

Before TikTok, Matt worked in the hair industry in New York for over 10 years at editorial and fashion brands.

He now uses that high-quality knowledge of the sector to simplify hair care for his growing audience, test new products and share hacks.
