Britain Weather: Arctic blast brings more snow as Met Office warns 8 INCHES to hit and flooding leads to chaos on roads

AN ARCTIC blast has brought more snow – as the Met Office warns, up to 20 centimeters of snow will fall and flooding will cause chaos on the roads.

Yellow snow and ice warnings are in effect for most areas Scotland today after flurries forced schools in Britain to close yesterday.

A warning applies everywhere north of Glasgow And Edinburgh from 3 p.m. today to 6 p.m. tomorrow.

Power outages and travel delays could be seen – along with possible injuries from falling onto icy surfaces.

No less than 8 centimeters snow could fall into the warning zone on higher ground.

Other parts of Scotland will be covered in around 3cm of snow, forecasters say.

Another snow warning covering southern and eastern Scotland until 3pm this afternoon.

With office expert Dan Stroud said: “We still have rain and in many cases snow moving north.

“Further weather warnings are in force. We have a second cloud and rain cloud moving north.

“It makes for challenging driving conditions. We've had the worst of it, but it's still not completely clear.

“Where there is snow, we see that there is a risk of some icy patches on the roads.

“The focus is probably starting to shift more towards ice cream – people still need to be careful.”

Homes and businesses may also be flooded in the south England.

Yesterday the mercury dropped to -13.8°C in Altnaharra, in the Scottish Highlands.

School closures were reported Wales, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire And Cumbria.
