Britain weather: Exact time when snow will hit Britain revealed by Met Office – and an icy cold snap is just days away

A FROSTY moment is on its way to Britain, with parts of the country set to be covered in snow.

The mercury has risen this week – with temperatures indoors London It is expected to be 17 degrees tomorrow.

But the With office has warned this won’t last long as frigid conditions are on the way.

Forecasters said it was wintry weather could even see it snow falling over the high ground in Scotland as early as this evening.

The Met Office said: “We could see some wintry showers over the higher ground of the Highlands in Scotland from Thursday evening into Friday morning.

“At altitudes above 400 metres, there may be more than 10 cm of snow on the highest peaks, but this is not unusual for this time of year. That snow will start to disappear, with a few centimeters over Scotland’s mountains above 600 /700 meters.” on Saturday and Sunday.

“Again, this is not unusual for this time of year and all that lying snow will then start to disappear as the new week begins.”

Heavy rain earlier this week caused travel chaos with London Paddington Station had to close on Tuesday.

The downpours also saw Brits heading out Cheltenham Racecourse forced to take shelter under their coats and umbrellas.

Many took over social media complain about the wet areas and parking lotswhile others ran through puddles in high heels and dress shoes.

But forecasters said the mercury was likely to rise into the low to mid teens in parts of the north later this week, and into the upper teens in southern areas.

The capital was expected to reach 17 degrees Celsius tomorrow Edinburgh will probably rise to 14°C.

The weather is changeable and the Met said this is likely to happen over the next week.

Forecasters said as of Monday: “A continuation of changeable but generally mild conditions appears likely into the new week.

“Rain will be heaviest in western, especially northwestern areas, while parts of the south and southeast are likely to see longer, drier interludes.

“Winds will be generally light to moderate in the south and east, with stronger winds affecting north-west areas at times, although nothing exceptional is expected at this time.

“In the latter part of next week and beyond we will see a trend towards temperatures falling closer to average across Britain.

“There is a small chance that more noticeably colder conditions will develop, most likely in northern Britain, but at this stage confidence in this remains low.”

Today:
A band of cloud and rain will move northwards across northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Can be tough on the west hill. Fairly cloudy elsewhere, with some showers developing here and there during the afternoon. Mild feeling, especially at night.

This evening:
A band of rain begins to move south. In the north of here there are clear skies with occasional showers and localized frost. South of the band it will remain mild and windy but cloudy.

Friday:
The band of rain continues to move southwards, but otherwise sunny with some showers, occasional thunderstorms possible and wintry for the Scottish mountains. It is colder than Thursday, but it remains mild in the south.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:
Saturday will be cooler and more stable, with widespread frost in the north. From Saturday afternoon it will become milder and more restless from the West.
