Britain weather: Met Office warns snow will fall within hours as showers turn wintry with freezing winds

SNOW is set to fall within hours as Brits are warned of biting winds and heavy rain.

Large parts of Britain have been told to prepare for more stormy and unsettled weather arriving tonight, according to British newspaper The Guardian With office.

Met Office meteorologists have forecast wintry showers Scotland that will turn to snow as temperatures drop.

Andrea Bishop, spokesperson for the Met Office, said: “There is no signal for impactful snow in the current forecast.

“Some showers in parts of Scotland may become wintry today, but mostly at altitudes above 400 metres.

“Further showers will move into eastern Scotland towards the end of Saturday, bringing further snow to the highlands and the same on Sunday, with some snow of a few centimeters over the Scottish mountains above 600/700 metres.

“This is not unusual for this time of year.

“All that lying snow will then start to disappear as the new week starts.”

Hail is forecast from 6am on Saturday, extending into the north east of England Wales towards evening.

This is expected to be accompanied by a large band of heavy rain lashing the region Midlands and south of England.

This pattern of unsettled and stormy weather is forecast to continue northwards through Sunday, with heavy rain hitting most of Britain.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said in a forecast: “It’s going to be a wet note we end on this week, with some rain expected to fall across most southern areas on both Saturday and Sunday.

“We’re going to have some solid or even strong easterly gains, leading to some cold winds, especially in the northern parts.”

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for Sunday to Tuesday predicts: “Rain will become increasingly widespread on Sunday.

“It will be drier from the west until Monday and the wind will decrease.

“It will be mostly dry on Tuesday, before rain and cloud arrive from the west later.”

It might as well come from Great Britain woke up yesterday to frost and fog and saw stormy gales all day with heavy rain showers.

Showers continued throughout the night as temperatures plunged in the north Scotland.

Until 4mm of snow was expected to fall over the high areas of northern Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Just last week the Met Office warned of travel chaos as snow fell and heavy rain soaked parts of Britain.

Heavy snow fell across parts of Cumbria, with many waking up to a total blackout.

And snow covered the ground as far south as Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire, where camels looked out of place.

British too woke up to a freezing cold -3C iIn parts of Scotland and South Wales a few days later.

While the Met Office warned of ice after the mercury fell to a frigid -4.6 in Benson, Oxfordshire.
