The Met Office is warning of 75mph and a 'cold front' bringing snow – as Brits brace for thunder, lightning and hail.

Today a band of heavy rainfall will move south and east, forecasters said.

Showers could bring downpours and gales of up to 75mph across Britain.

Yellow wind and rain warnings are in effect for much of the south EnglandEast Anglia, the Midlands and South Wales.

Heavy rains could flood homes, roads and train tracks across the country warning zone.

A rain warning is in place for south-west England, south Wales and Herefordshire until 2pm.

A further rain warning is in force for London, the Home Counties, the East Midlands and the east of England until 5pm.

And a yellow wind warning applies to London, the South East, East Anglia and the South West from 8am to 6pm.

Delays have already been reported this morning on the M4, M60 and M62.

There may also be power outages, transport delays, flying debris and life-threatening waves.

There's a chance of that snow in tonight WalesNorth West England and parts thereof Scotland.

With office expert Paul Gundersen said: “It's been a wet February so far.

“There will be more rain on Thursday, accompanied by some gusts of wind.

'The warning areas cover a large part of southern, central and eastern England.

He added: “There is a small chance that wind gusts could reach 100 to 120 km per hour, especially on exposed coasts.

“On a broader scale, we are likely to see a shorter period of heavy, showery rain with hail and thunder in some places and wind gusts of up to around 50mph.

“Most places within the warning areas are likely to see 10-15mm of rain, with a chance of 30-40mm in some places.

“This falls on saturated ground, which increases the risk of flooding and disruption.”

Tomorrow will be a windy day for many, with rain in many places.

The mercury will continue to hover around its annual average after nippy spells earlier this month.

It should be a bit drier on Saturday before rain and wind return south on Sunday.
