Barnaby Joyce has criticized the Albanian government and the government of Brittany Higgins Compensation of $2.4 millionasking whether military veterans have ever been paid the same amount for workplace injuries.

Ms Higgins was forced to reveal the value of her claim against the Commonwealth in the Federal Court last weekwhich was settled in December last year after just one day of mediation.

The amount she quoted to the court, $2.3 million, was about $145,000 less than the actual value.

Last week, Joyce pointed out the stark contrast between the way Ms Higgins’ claim was being considered, compared to the way diggers’ mental health and personal injury claims are being handled.

In a question asked in Parliament, Mr Joyce asked: ‘How many veterans or dependents have received compensation in the last ten years since the current government came into office?

“How many veterans or survivors received compensation or other form of payment totaling at least $2.3 million each month?

‘In each case, what was the period from the filing of the claim to the approval of the payment? Without asking for identifiable personal information, what injuries, conditions, or conditions did each payment cover?”

Ms Higgins’ payment was for general damages, past economic loss and assistance with future household chores, and future economic loss based on claims she would be unable to work in politics for 40 years.
