Local residents and eyewitnesses said the building was in a dilapidated state and collapsed around 6 p.m. while residents were still inside.
Jamnagar: A dilapidated three-storey residential building in the Gujarat town of Jamnagar collapsed on Friday night. According to a preliminary report, about 8 people were trapped under the rubble and 5 have been rescued so far. Jamnagar MP Poonamben Maadam gave details and said the rescue operation is underway.
“Today an apartment building in Sadhana Colony collapsed. About 8 people were trapped under the rubble and 5 have been rescued so far. The rescue operation is ongoing,” Poonamben Maadam said in a statement.

Another official told PTI news agency that the building was built by the Gujarat Housing Board almost three decades ago.
Shortly after getting information, Jamnagar Municipal Commissioner DN Modi, senior civilian officials and local MLA Divyesh Akbari rushed to the spot and are supervising the rescue operation.
Local residents and eyewitnesses said the building was in a dilapidated state and collapsed around 6 p.m. while residents were still inside.
While three to four people were pulled alive from the rubble and hospitalized, it is feared eight to 10 people may be trapped inside, residents said.
