Spain’s first ‘It Girl’, Marta Chavarri, has passed away at the age of 62, leaving the country’s high society in shock.

Marta, the mother of Álvaro Falcó, Marquis de Cubas and aunt of the Spanish Kim Kardashain Tamara Falco, is said to have been found at home in Madrid by her housekeeper.

Her death comes just a week after she celebrated cousin Tamara’s wedding, in what was dubbed the Spanish Wedding of the Year.

Now Tamara, 41, – the half-sister of Enrique Iglesias – has rocked up on her honeymoon in Cape Town with new husband, Inigo Oneva, 34.

Marta was found dead at her home in Madrid on Friday, July 21. Hello confirmed.

The late Marta Chavarri, sometimes referred to as Spain’s first ‘it girl’, was previously the wife of Marquis de Cubas and mother of Alvaro Falco, Tamara’s cousin.

Tamara received the unfortunate news just days after her lavish wedding just outside Madrid.

The news comes just a month after the birth of Marta’s first grandchild, Philippa Isabelle Junot, Alvaro Falco’s first child, on June 14.

Isabelle and Alvaro’s wedding last year was a big party and was voted ‘society wedding of the year’.

Isabelle, 31, is the daughter of Princess Caroline’s first husband, Philippe Junot, 82.

Guests at the palace of the Marqués de Mirabel in Plasencia, Western Spain – included Marta Ortega, the head of Zara, as well as Dolce & Gabbana model Eugenia Silva, Prince Hubertus of Hohenlohe-Langenburg and the Marquise of Mirabel.

Marta was the great-granddaughter of the Count of Romanones, granddaughter of the Marquis of Santo Floro, and daughter of Tomas Chavarri, Ambassador and former Head of State of Protocol.

She married Fernando Falco in 1982 before giving birth to her only child, Alvaro, just eleven months after the couple married.

The marriage lasted seven years until 1989 when the couple separated.

In 2005, the Spanish icon was linked to British sculptor Richard Hudson, but Chavarri reportedly devoted the last years of her life to the arts.

Chavarri would enjoy painting, traveling and being surrounded by her family in her later years.

The tragic news comes just days after Tamara shared the first photos from her extraordinary journey Instagram.

She captioned the photos: “The beginning of a journey as sweet as honey and as beautiful as the moon.”

Tamara and Inigo stay at Belmond Hotel, a luxurious five-star hotel in the heart of Cape Town.

The couple married 400 well-to-do guests earlier this month in the chapel on the grounds of El Rincón Palace.

With the eyes of millions of people across Spain on them, Tamara and Inigo enjoyed a weekend-long celebration that began with a religious ceremony, followed by a feast and brunch the next day.

The religious wedding began under Tamara’s priest Father Cruz, followed by live music and a live cooking show in the gardens, fitting as Tamara is an enthusiastic cook who has recently completed her training at Le Cordon Bleu.

Eneko Atxa, a three-star Michelin chef, led the cooking show, with guests toasting with Moet & Chandon champagne.

After dinner, the couple enjoyed their first dance to Nat King Cole’s LOVE before the party got underway shortly after midnight.

It is unknown if the newlywed couple will cut short the trip to support Tamara’s family.
