Kat Janice dead at age 31 after battling cancer

TikTok star Cat Janice passed away after her battle with cancer.

Janice’s family confirmed the news on Wednesday, February 28, via her Instagram page. Janice suffered from sarcoma, a rare form of cancer of soft tissue and bones, according to the Mayo Clinic.

“This morning, from her childhood home and surrounded by her loving family, Catherine peacefully entered the light and love of her heavenly creator,” the musician’s family wrote in a message. They continued: “Cat has seen her music go places she never expected and is resting in the peace of knowing that she will continue to care for her son through her music. Without all of you, this wouldn’t have been possible.”

The post stated that Janice’s brother, who goes by the name Cubby, would manage her account. “He will also manage all activities surrounding Cat’s music, merchandise and public relations,” she added. “At Cat’s request, there is more art that she also wants to share. On time.”

Prior to her death, Janice’s song “Dance You Outta My Head” went viral on the social media platform. Last month, the mother-of-one told her followers that it would mean the “world” if users pre-save and streamed her song in hopes of creating a legacy for her 7-year-old son, Loren.

“My art is the only thing I have to leave behind and I leave it for my son to benefit from,” she wrote alongside a series of images showing her and her family via TikTok. “Huge thanks to my label @HandscribedRecords and family and friends for the everlasting support. #cancer #songwriter #sarcoma.”

Just two weeks later, Janice revealed she had become a Top 40 Billboard artist after “Dance You Outta My Head” reached No. 11 on the Hot Dance/Electronic chart on Digital Sales.

“You all did this. You made my dream come true,” she wrote via Instagram in January. “Just when I needed it most. You all loved me back to life and gave me my ‘one more moment alive’. When I wrote ‘Wishing I Was You’ I wrote those lyrics where I desperately wanted to have one more moment to shout from the rooftops and you all loved me so much and gave me that moment and I am forever grateful. No matter what God brings my way, I know I am loved ❤️ #cancer #love #billboard #catjanice @billboard @billboardcharts.”

Janice first announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer in 2021. After surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, she was declared cancer-free in July 2022. Earlier this year she revealed she had ‘won’ the cancer after a long and ‘tough’ battle and entered the hospice after he could no longer breathe in intensive care.

“The sarcomas are too tough,” she wrote about one TikTok video of herself from the hospital, noting that she wanted her latest song to bring her fans “joy and laughter”.

“It’s everything I ever wanted during my battle with cancer,” she added. “I wish I could say these words to you, but lung cancer stole my voice. So all I ask is one favor to pre-save my latest song in my bio. Thanks for the love and I hope you like the song. I’ll see you in heaven.”
