Milk shortage in Chennai: City residents said they would go to Aavin’s milk booths early in the morning only to hear that the stock had run out.

Residents of Chennai said they searched the entire neighborhood but could not find milk anywhere.

Chennai: Residents of the city expressed concern as Chennai is facing an acute shortage of milk following the massive flood caused by Cyclone Michaung. The shortage was mainly caused by logistical problems, including supply vehicles unable to reach the city. As a result, the milk packets are not being delivered to the stalls and furthermore, the shortage has been exacerbated by people’s panic buying.

According to a report by India Today, residents of the city said they would go to Aavin’s milk booths early in the morning only to be told that the stock had run out.

Residents express their concerns

“We have been facing this problem for the past three days. When we go in the morning they say there is no milk. When we go in the evening they say there is no milk. Shops are closed. The stores that are open also say there is no milk. When a fresh supply comes in, it runs out almost immediately. I have children at home. I try to get milk somewhere else. It is very difficult for us,” a local told India Today.

Another resident said she looked all over the neighborhood but couldn’t find milk anywhere, adding that she was asked to come at 4pm to get it but there was no milk when she arrived. “This has been the case for the past three days,” she said.

Meanwhile, Milk and Dairy Development Minister Mano Thangaraj held a meeting with private milk suppliers on the instructions of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.
