Cher files to place son Elijah Blue Allman, 47, under conservatorship to manage his finances ‘due to serious mental health and substance abuse issues’

Cher has filed court papers to take her adult son Elijah Blue Allman into custody, saying he is addicted to drugs, unable to manage his finances and has health problems both physically and mentally.

The legendary entertainer, 77, said Wednesday in court documents reviewed by TMZ that Elijah Blue, 47, is “substantially unable to manage his own financial resources due to serious mental health and substance abuse issues.”

According to the newspaper, a trial on the matter has been set for March 6, 2024.

Elijah Blue is the son of Cher and late rock star Gregg Allman, who died in May 2017 at the age of 69.

Cher said Elijah receives interim payments from a trust Allman set up, and she worries he will use his money to obtain more medications instead of paying essential expenses.

The If I Could Turn Back Time singer said that as Elijah’s mother, she is best suited to be a conservator, and that she has received internal family support on the matter.

Cher said Elijah’s estranged wife Marieangela King, 36, has been a destructive presence in his life and is hindering efforts to get him the help he needs with drug and mental health issues.

King and Cher have publicly sparred in the past, with King claiming that Cher tried to kidnap Elijah last year in an attempt to send him to rehab. Cher has denied the allegations.

Cher “has not been able to discuss Elijah’s preferences regarding the appointment of a temporary conservator given Elijah’s current mental and physical health issues,” her legal team said.

Lawyers alleged that Elijah “lacks the capacity to form or express a preference regarding the appointment of a conservator for his estate.”

In legal documents, Cher said she was concerned that “any money distributed to Elijah will immediately be spent on drugs, leaving Elijah without assets to support himself and putting Elijah’s life in danger.”

Elijah is in an ongoing divorce from King, who Cher says in legal documents is “estranged” from him.

“Their tumultuous relationship was marked by a cycle of drug addiction and mental health crises,” Cher said in court.

Cher said in legal documents that King “has not supported Elijah’s recovery and … is actively working to prevent Elijah from getting clean and sober or receiving the mental health treatment he desperately needs.”

Cher said she was “aware and believes” that King was instrumental in taking steps “to get Elijah out of the treatment center where he received much-needed medical care.”

Cher cited Elia’s divorce from King as a reason why King “is not entitled to be appointed conservator of Elia’s estate unless the court determines, based on clear and convincing evidence, that such appointment would be in the best interests of Elia.”

Cher said it would be “unsafe to Elia and his estate” to assign King any control over the conservatorship, saying that “this would result in the immediate loss or dissipation of Elia’s assets for self-destructive purposes.”

In October, Cher spoke with People about King’s past claims that Cher kidnapped Elia, calling them “not true.”

Cher is also mother to son Chaz Bono, 54, from her marriage to the late Sonny Bono.
