Fabiola was known for her work in the popular Mexican children's show Bely y Beto in 2009, where she was the iconic voice of the beloved character Beto.

She was admitted to Ginequito Hospital in Monterrey Mexico during her 35th week of pregnancy after developing life-threatening preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome.

Her doctor Alejandro Martínez Cavazos said Ortega showed signs of a ruptured liver, fetal distress and massive internal bleeding.

And the medical team fought for five days to save her life.

Dr. Martínez said she was in critical condition in intensive care for the first 48 hours.

She underwent two operations, lost seven liters of blood and suffered three cardiac arrests.

The medical team managed to stabilize her and her organs showed signs of improvement.

Dr. Martínez launched a desperate campaign for blood donations and shared the fight to save her life on Instagram.

But Fabiola tragically died on February 1 before she could undergo another operation.

Little Aldo was born safely and in healthy condition and is currently being cared for by his father.

Mexican journalist María Julia Lafuente said: “She was in labor, she went to intensive care. She lost a lot of blood, she developed preeclampsia.

“Those who are mothers know that this is extremely serious and delicate.

“The doctors did everything they could, but she suffered from severe preeclampsia with HELLP syndrome.”

Belinda Treviño – who currently stars in Bely y Beto – thanked her for the joy she brought to children in a heartfelt tribute to Instagram.

She said: “It's very difficult to say goodbye.

“Thank you for so many moments we lived together and brought joy to so many children with your voice. Fly high.”

What is HELLP syndrome?

HELLP syndrome is a rare liver and blood clotting disorder that can affect pregnant women.

It is a form of preeclampsia: a pregnancy complication that causes high blood pressure during pregnancy and after delivery.

HELLP syndrome most likely occurs immediately after delivery.

But it can occur any time after 20 weeks of pregnancy – and in rare cases before 20 weeks.

The letters in the name HELLP represent each part of the condition:

  • “H” stands for hemolysis – this is where the red blood cells in the blood are broken down
  • “EL” stands for elevated liver enzymes (proteins) – a high level of enzymes in the liver is a sign of liver damage
  • “LP” stands for low platelet count. Platelets are substances in the blood that help the blood to clot

The only way to treat the condition is to deliver the baby as soon as possible.

Once the mother receives treatment, she may make a full recovery.

HELLP syndrome is rare and occurs in 0.1 to 1 percent of pregnancies.

Women with preeclampsia have a higher risk of developing HELLP syndrome.

Symptoms of preeclampsia include:

  • severe headache
  • vision problems, such as blurred vision or seeing flashing lights
  • pain just below the ribs
  • vomit
  • sudden swelling of the feet, ankles, face and hands
