Cody Simpson’s dream of competing in the World Swimming Championships was shattered on Sunday.
The singer turned swimmer competed in the men’s 100m butterfly final on day six of the 2023 Australian Swimming Trials at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
Unfortunately, the 26-year-old came fifth, behind Matthew Temple, Shaun Champion, Jesse Coleman and his ‘love rival’ Kyle Chalmers.
Cody’s disappointment was evident as he checked his time on the scoreboard while in the pool inches from Kyle, who, on the other hand, seemed elated.
Previously, there were reportedly “awkward scenes” at the venue as the two men lined up side-by-side to face each other in the match.

Days after going public, the pair became embroiled in a reported “love triangle” with Emma’s ex-boyfriend and fellow Team Australia member Kyle Chalmers.
It was alleged at the time that Kyle blocked Cody’s entry into the ranks of the Australian Dolphins for the World Championships in Hungary after learning of their relationship.

Cody later got a one up on Kyle when he was named to the ten-man shortlist for the GQ Sportsman of the Year award, with Kyle missing out.
