Council houses are made available by local authorities to people in need.

They are often cheaper than renting private homes and can also provide greater security against eviction.

Council housing is allocated to potential tenants on a points-based system, with those in greater need receiving homes first.

If you are high enough on the waiting list, the municipality will contact you about an available home.

In Great Britain, there are currently more than a million people waiting for social housing.
