Croydon fire near Burwood in Sydney: a huge inferno breaks out

A massive fire has broken out at an e-bike shop containing dozens of dangerous and volatile lithium-ion batteries in Sydney’s inner west.

Firefighters rushed to a two-storey warehouse on Elizabeth Street in Croydon on Friday morning after reports a fire had broken out just meters from houses.

Up to seven fire engines and paramedics were sent to the scene as evacuated residents waited nervously outside their homes.

There is a gas station on one side of the building and houses on the other.

No one was injured in the fire as of 6 a.m. It is believed that no one is in the warehouse. The nearby buildings have been evacuated as a precaution.

Residents in the Inner West have been told to avoid Elizabeth Street, which is closed between Frederick and Edwin streets.

The warehouse is considered too dangerous for firefighters to enter.
