Doja Cat has her fans divided over comeback single Attention – which came out this week and follows her 2021 hit album Planet Her.

Completely naked and covered in gore in the racy video and single artwork – the track was highly anticipated in the music industry given its huge success with songs like Kiss Me More and Say So.

However, the edgier new sound of her latest track has led to mixed reactions from fans and celebrity artists alike.

Lady Gaga described the new track as “killer” in a social media commentary, while rival rapper Azealia Banks slammed the star for being “soooo loud” in a typically disparaging post.

Hit or moss? Doja Cat has been dividing her fans over comeback single Attention – which came out this week and follows 2021’s smash hit album Planet Her.

“I really want to like doja’s music but it’s all sooo my best,” Banks wrote on an Instagram story. “Her first album was actually super cool… it was her own authentic art voice…”

“doja doesn’t have the theater training/authentic hunger it takes to seamlessly be the master of the genre she’s trying to be,” she added.

The 27-year-old singer and rapper – real name Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini – has caused a lot of controversy in the run-up to the release.

She has become known for teasing and playing tricks on her fans, often threatening to leave the music industry and saying she was “done” with pop music.

The Grammy Award winner said her upcoming album will be “rap only,” unlike her two previous pop projects — which she previously called “cash grabs.”

While the title of the new studio album is unknown, Doja has tested the waters by sharing such potential ideas.

She suggested ‘Hellmouth’ and ‘First Of All’ leading up to its official release during an interview with Time.

She then went on to stir up speculation for the new song on Tuesday by posting the album cover, an image with blood drops that didn’t reveal the song’s title, but the pre-save link gave away the name.

While making the untitled record, she vowed that there would be a lot more rap compared to her previous releases.

In an interview with Variety in February 2023, Doja confessed that she was planning to make a male follow-up to her third studio album, Planet Her (2021).

Musically, the album will primarily be centered around hip-hop and R&B genres, marking a departure from the pop-driven sounds of its predecessor.

The Love To Dream star has been doing well since Planet Her came out in 2021.

It reached number one in New Zealand and entered the top 10 in a dozen other countries.

On Wednesday, the singer/rapper shared a preview clip of the eerie new music video that will be released on Friday, June 16.
