Carey was also encouraged by then-fiancée Nicole Jaracz 5 year old son, Connor. “I couldn't keep up with him,” he said. “I'd say, 'Connor, I can't do that,' and he'd say, 'Come on, Dad!' That was a terrible feeling. I thought, I never see him graduating from high school. (Carey and Jaracz dated for five years before calling off their engagement in 2012.)

Later that year, Carey revealed that a strict regimen, a no-carb diet and going to the gym reversed his diabetes diagnosis. “I no longer have diabetes,” he said People at the time. “No medication required.”

The comedian added that 'no carbs' was his biggest change in his eating habits, but he occasionally gave in when cravings struck. “I cheated a few times, but basically no carbs, not even a cracker,” he said. “No bread at all. No pizza, nothing. No corn, no beans, no starch of any kind. Protein in the morning or Greek yogurt, for example, cutting some fruit.”

Carey added at the time that he was enjoying his slimmer figure. “I like being skinny,” he explained. “I was tired of being fat in front of the camera. Really, it just made me sick. Once I started losing weight, like when I started dropping a few pant sizes, it was easy because once you see the results, you won't want to stop.
