The Duchess of Edinburgh cut a refined figure today as she arrived at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute during her five-day visit to Canada.

Sophie, 58, opted for a dark brown trouser suit from Gabriela Hearst for the final day of her trip, which started last Friday.

Her Royal Highness, who took part in several exercises during her tour, met with frontline healthcare workers, researchers and patients to learn more about University Health Network (UHN) medical innovations.

Sophie’s visit to several hospitals in recent days was aimed at sharing developments in the fields of arthritis, vision and brain research, social medicine and emergency medicine, as well as innovations in cardiovascular care and the latest technologies in physical rehabilitation .

The solo overseas tour is indicative of Sophie’s importance within the royal family, after she was chosen to visit the Commonwealth’s largest country – becoming the first member of the monarchy to do so since the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

For the occasion, Sophie opted for a sleek double-breasted blazer and straight-leg trousers from Gabriela Hearst, in a chocolate brown shade.

She added a floral blouse, also from the New York-based brand, and completed her outfit with pumps.

The mother-of-two completed her look with a pair of simple gold hoop earrings, while her blonde hair was neatly pulled back.

Sophie could be seen taking part in a variety of activities, including a light-hearted game of catch with one of the patients.

During another exercise, intended for people who have fallen or are at risk of falling, she put on a harness before trying to walk.

It comes after the royal one visited Toronto Western Hospital yesterday. Sophie seemed excited to play with the technology in her role as patron of Toronto General and Toronto Western hospitals, University Health Network (UHN).

The late queen’s daughter-in-law looked typically elegant, opting for a stylish dress and matching boots, while wearing a poppy badge pinned to her ensemble.
