England announce T20I, ODI squad for upcoming West Indies tour; Major players are missing | Check details

New Delhi: Looking to bounce back from their disappointing Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign, England have named new playing groups for their white-ball tour of the West Indies in December.

The series will play three ODIs and five T20Is from December 3 to 21 and will provide Jos Buttler’s side with the opportunity to form new long-term plans in the 50-over game, while looking ahead to the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in June next year. West Indies and USA

Buttler leads both sides, with only five other players from India’s Cricket World Cup group backing up to play the ODI series in the Caribbean.

Gus Atkinson, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone will join the white-ball skipper, with the first two 50-over matches being played in Antigua.

Barbados will host the final ODI and the first T20I, before Grenada and Trinidad host two T20Is each.

After a breakthrough home summer in the Test format, Josh Tongue has been included in both the T20I and ODI squads, as has fellow seamer John Turner. The 22-year-old has impressed for Hampshire on the domestic stage, as well as with the Trent Rockets in The Hundred.

Having missed out on qualifying for the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, the series marks the West Indies’ return to international cricket, having last played when India toured in August. The side lost the three-match ODI series 2-1 but claimed a 3-2 victory in the T20I series.
