More than a decade after the finale, fans have held out hope that the cast… The office would travel back to Scranton, Pennsylvania, and the cast seems to be mostly all in.
Inspired by the British series of the same name, The office chronicled the day-to-day operations of paper company Dunder Mifflin during its nine-season run. The comedy, shot in the style of a faux documentary, centers on manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell) and his associates, Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), Jim Halbert (Johannes Krasinski), Pam Beesley (Jenna Fischer) and many others.
Ever since NBC closed the chapter on the show in 2013, rumors have swirled about a possible revival, with multiple outlets reporting in December 2017 that it was in the works. Despite never coming to fruition, showrunner Greg Daniels discussed the idea in 2023 – and did not conclude it.
In an interview with Colliderhe hinted that there was potential for something to happen in the future, saying, “If there is something to announce, I will definitely announce it.”
Keep scrolling for everything the cast members have said about a revival:
Brian Baumgartner
Baumgartner said he is ready to reprise his role as Kevin Malone, but he has one condition before he does so.
“If Greg Daniels was involved, then yes, of course,” Baumgartner said exclusively We weekly in February 2024.
While Baumgartner noted that nothing is set in stone at this point, he hinted “maybe someday,” saying, “I think we will get back together at some point, but there are no immediate plans.”
Angela Kinsey
Kinsey, who played Angela Martin, shared Us in 2017 to “draw [her] up” for a revival, and years later she doubled her claim.
When Kinsey was asked if she would do a possible film adaptation of The office she said during an episode of her and Fischer's “Office Ladies” podcast in January 2024 that she would “do it for [her] children” because “they would like that.”
Steve Carell
Carell shut down the idea of a restart as he spoke Entertainment tonightsaying he wouldn't even consider it.
“I don't want to be a jerk about it, but I think people who like the show originally would want it to come back exactly as it was, but that could never happen,” he said in November 2017. I don't want it because I love the show so much. I think people would be disappointed, I really do.”
Rainn Wilson
Wilson expressed his support for returning to his character, saying he would “love to come back again.” The office.”
“I told Greg Daniels that I would like to do something,” he said Collider in September 2020. “Maybe one day we will do something. It's funny, I hear things like, “We can't do anything because we finished this show perfectly, and we don't want to do anything else.” But then someone comes up with an idea that's just ridiculous and I don't know what to think about it.”
He continued, “Hopefully one day. The fans would really love it. That's what matters most. The fans would love to see these characters again and have an experience with them.”
Johannes Krasinski
Krasinski, one of the biggest stars to emerge from the show, had nothing but positive things to say about his time on the show and would like to reverse it.
“The office was absolutely everything to me,” he said Esquire in February 2020. “I mean, it's my beginning and my end. I'm pretty sure I'll still be known at the end of my career [his character] Jim. That was my first experience with Hollywood. It was the first creative family I ever had. In many ways, they will always be the most important people in that most important experience of my career. So yeah, if they did a reunion, I would absolutely love to do it.”
Krasinski previously said yes to the idea during a performance in February 2018 The Ellen DeGeneres Show, saying, “Oh my god, are you kidding me? I would like to. I would like to get that gang back together.”
Leslie David Baker
Baker was set to reprise his role as Stanley Hudson in a spin-off series titled Uncle Stanwhich would follow Stanley retiring in Florida and moving to Los Angeles to help his cousin with a failing business.
After receiving more than $110,000 in donations from fans, the actor issued refunds in August 2023 because the project “took longer than expected due to circumstances beyond our control,” he explained via Instagram.
Jenna Fischer
While initially expressing her doubts, Fischer voiced a similar stipulation against Baumgartner when it came to making a hypothetical film adaptation of the sitcom.
“Okay, as long as Greg writes it and he's in charge of it, then I say yes,” Fischer said in January 2024 on her and Kinsey's “Office Ladies” podcast.
Ellie Kemper
When asked about a possible revival of The officeKemper, who played Erin Hannon, disappointed fans with her answer.
“I would like to see a reboot, but I don't think that will happen. So that's a sad answer, but maybe that would be fun in a reunion episode,” she further said Watch what happens live with Andy Cohen in July 2019.
BJ Novak
Novak expressed his hesitation about reviving his character Ryan Howard, and the show as a whole.
“I think it should be approached as an artistic decision, not a financial decision. I'm afraid there is, understandably, so much financial pressure to dig this precious metal into the ground The office reboot, spinoff or whatever,” he explained Deadline in August 2022.
Mindy Kaling
Kaling, who played Kelly Kapoor, said she would be “excited and supportive” of a revival if it were created by Daniels.
“It had to be the right person steering the ship, but if it was Greg, who was the brains of the American Officeit would be a great show,” she shared StyleCaster in August 2021.
Oscar Nunez
Nunez, who played Oscar Martinez, expressed his doubts about that The office returns to the big screen and says he only thinks it would happen for a Christmas special or “something one-off.”
“And even that's probably not going to happen, but that would be the only way I could say something like that happens. Sorry to say,” he said Metro Philadelphia September 2018.
Phyllis Smith
Smith, who played Phyllis Vance, moved on Entertainment weekly in 2015 that “it would be a really good idea” to get the cast back together in some capacity.
“It was so much fun working with these people, so any time they wanted to bring us back together, I would be there in a heartbeat,” she said.
Ed Helms
When asked if he would like to reprise his role as Andy Bernard, Helms exclaimed Today in April 2021: “Guys of course. This is the thing. The cast of The office loves that show as much as the fans do.
Craig Robinson
“Everything that has to do with it The office I would revisit it,” Robinson, who played Darryl Philbin, shared International business times in January 2017.
Believe Bratton
While he said he would reprise his role as Creed Bratton, a fictionalized version of himself, he conveyed his skepticism of a revival.
“If there were all these younger kids and some of us were still there, they would bring in new people, and it was funny – would they get the magic?” he told Rush in February 2018. “It would be doubtful, but it could happen. Would lightning strike the bottle twice? Don't know.”
