Why isn’t Facebook Messenger working?

A spike in reports was spotted by Down Detector around 3pm UK time, with more than 50,000 complaints.

Facebook’s main social network is also currently experiencing an outage.

And some users have also reported errors with Instagram.

It is not yet clear what caused the outage, but Facebook owner Meta has acknowledged the problems.

“We are aware of an issue affecting Facebook Login,” the company added on its service status page.

“Our technical teams are actively working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

Users quickly complained about the problem on X, formerly known as Twitter.

How have users responded?

It all started when users were randomly logged out of their accounts.

But when you try to log in, people can no longer access the social network.

“Facebook, Messenger and Instagram are all down! What the hell are we going to do????” wrote one user.

“Facebook, Messenger and Instagram are offline. Goodbye social media. Oops,” another added.

How can I check if the problem is widespread?

The DownDetector is a useful tool to check for problems with certain services, including social media platforms and phone lines.

People can report any problem they experience on the website, which will create a live outage map.

It shows how widespread the problem is and whether it only occurs in a certain area.

There is also an option for users to comment and explain the issues they are experiencing.

Meta also shares service updates on its service status page.
