What could TV's Claudia Winkleman and Toad of Toad Hall possibly have in common? A preference for tweed and an Argyle check, of course.

It's an easy question for the ten million people who tuned in to The Traitors, the game show full of lies, betrayals and sob-worthy moments, all filmed in a beautiful Scottish castle setting.

Since the second season started this month, viewers have become as obsessed with host Claudia's wardrobe as they are with the antics of the contestants.

Claudia and her stylist of 18 years, Sinead McKeefry, have done a volte-face style, replacing strictly sequins with items usually reserved for Highland gamekeepers and Caledonian castle owners.

It's a tribute to British fashion – think Fair Isle, tartan and giant cable knit sweaters.

But they will serve you just as well on the city streets as in the valleys.

Sinead, who shared details of the clothes on Instagram, said 'the response was off the charts'.

“I knew from last year that there would be some interest, but this time it's at least triple,” she told an interviewer. “I have friends in retail who say people are coming in asking for The Traitors look.”

Read on for our guide on how to follow Traitors' fashion – no castle required…

Vampire-like velvet

For a sub-£100 version, Reserved's jacket costs just £45.99

The TV presenter triumphs in a velvet jacket and exudes a mean, rural atmosphere

Scotland is not known for its sultry weather, so silk dresses with straps are not suitable for an evening. Enter velvet. It suggests opulence without hypothermia.

Claudia combined her €2,175 black velvet jacket from Saint Laurent with a €260 shirt from Self Portrait. The bow tie and bib detail gave it a Dracula quality, and it's precisely in this – infusing what could be a stuffy country look with a mean vibe – that Claudia triumphs.

For a version under €100, the Reserved jacket costs €45.99.

Super-sized sweaters

Echt Wild has a similar knit for £102

Claudia in the oversized sweater from men's clothing brand Kapital with smiley faces on the elbows

Claudia's most talked about item at the show was her £480 countrycore khaki jumper

That khaki sweater – perhaps the most talked-about item in Claudia's wardrobe – reflects her style: seemingly classic at first glance, decidedly punk at second glance.

Because the cable sweater (so far countrycore) has smiley faces on the elbows. Another crucial reason for its cool factor? The oversized fit: Kapital is a men's clothing brand. It cost £480 and is now sold out, although some obsessed viewers are hoping to buy it second-hand on eBay for as much as £875.

For a similar knit you can go to Real Wild. Or for a more handbag-friendly alternative, go for Monki's Chunky Turtleneck, £35. Size up for that essential slouch.

Tweed blazer

Get your own Joules tweed jacket for £149 from January 31st

Claudia prefers a £420 tweed blazer from The Kooples

The key to wearing a tweet jacket is to pair it with velvet pants for that gothic look

Do you hear those words and think 'Pony Club'? Claudia makes the tweed blazer less gymkhana, more gothic.

The key is in the combination: pair yours with black velvet trousers for a look that doesn't venture into Hooray Henry territory.

This season, Claudia has opted for a £420 tweed blazer from The Kooples. Ours is from Joules (£149); After facing financial difficulties in 2022, the brand has had a facelift and is back better than ever with founder Tom Joule at the helm.

Homegrown printing

Our model combines Claudia's outfit with a jacket from the High Street brand New Look

Claudia in a Fair Isle sweater from Brora, combined with tweed breeks from Cordings

In episode one, Claudia made the case for homegrown prints in a £595 Argyle cardigan

Surely Claudia is this century's equivalent of the future Edward VIII, who popularized Fair Isle when he wore several such sweaters in the 1920s? Among her knitwear offering, Claudia wears a Fair Isle jumper from Brora, paired with tweed breeks from Cordings, £179 (the same pair our model is wearing here).

Head to Cordings' wonderfully traditional Piccadilly shop and you'll find dukes stocking up on plus fours and army officers in chinos. Soon the fashion crowd will flock there too, thanks to Claudia.

Episode one also saw her championing homegrown prints in a £595 Argyle vest from gunmaker and country outfitter James Purdey & Sons. At Uniqlo you can find Argyle sweaters for under €40.

Trophy jacket

Holland Cooper's £749 Black Watch tartan coat has the approval of both Claudia and the Princess of Wales

But you can reduce the cost with the £259 Hobbs jacket

Dramatic floor-length coats kept Claudia warm in the Scottish Highlands

Hand cut and made in England, the Holland Cooper Black Watch Tartan Coat is Holland Cooper's ultimate trophy coat. No wonder that both Claudia and the Princess of Wales have the seal of approval.

Both know that there is nothing better to add elegance to comfort; a trophy jacket takes even a jersey and boots to the next level. Look for military-inspired buttons, double-breasted buttons and a true maxi length for optimal luxury factor. The Hobbs jacket pictured (£259) was the perfect impressive length for our 6ft tall model, and it's also available in a small version.

Confuse with tartan

Claudia's mini-length tartan skirt paired with THAT khaki sweater and Dr. Martens

The £180 alternative skirt and the £85 jumper

Claudia looks elegant in her matching green top with her skirt for a Scottish look

Claudia pulls off the impossible fashion: wearing tartan in the Highlands without looking like she's cosplaying Scottishness.

Scottish brand Brora ensures that Claudia's kilt doesn't fall into spoof territory thanks to the mohair fabric and slightly faded check.

Claudia's has a minimum length, but there is also a more portable midi version (£189). Combine with sturdy boots – Claudia is in favor of Dr. Martens, ours is a £42.99 New Look dupe – for that essential punk edge. The Clash is coming to Caledonia, if you will.

Cape drama

The TV presenter's £690 black wool cape from sustainable London label Luxury Family Affair

Mirror Claudia's toff-meets-goth combo in a £129 cape from Joules

Add dramatic flair to your everyday life by donning a cape for that warm yet luxurious look

There's no item that suits the show's dramatic Highlands setting better than a cape – especially when paired with a high collar like that of Claudia's £690 black wool cape from sustainable London label Luxury Family Affair – which is sold out in the color Claudia sports.

Or there's the checked one from Joules, worn here by our model, which has been reduced to €129. It conjures up images of the Evil Queen in Snow White, storming through her lair.

Again, that cool-meets-goth combination means Claudia's looks never become twee. Add the presenter's favorite accessory: fingerless gloves, which retail for just $18 on Amazon, for ultimate style points.
