“You can hear these stories over and over again, and it will still have the same emotional impact because it’s so devastating.”

Meghan then shared her fears for her own children, who are growing up in a time when social media plays such a big role in everyone’s lives.

“As parents, even though our kids are very young, they’re two and a half and four and a half… but social media isn’t going away,” she continued.

“I think by design there was an entry point that was supposed to be positive in creating a community and something was conveyed, and there’s no way to hear that and not try to help these families tell their stories to belong.’

In a video shared by Huffington Post reporter Carly Ledbetter, Meghan described her role as a mother as the “most important thing in her life… outside of being a wife” to Harry, before opening up about her concerns regarding their children Archie and Lilibet via social media.

“Being a mother is the most important thing in my entire life…other than being a wife to this one, of course,” she said, when Carson asked her how much of a “priority” social media safety is to her, as a mother of two young children.

“But I will say that I feel fortunate that our children are at an age that, again, is still quite young, so this is not in our immediate future, but I also fear the way it continues to change.

“And this will be before us. As they say, “As a parent, the days are long, but the years are short.” So it worries me, but I also get a lot of hope and a lot of energy from the progress we’ve made over the past year.”

Another video taken at the event and posted to Twitter shows Meghan hugging some of the speakers as they walked off stage after addressing the gathered crowd.

Yesterday’s event, at which the couple was joined by Today show host Carson and U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, marks their first appearance together in New York since the infamous ‘car chase’ they became embroiled in in May after attending the Women of Vision awards.

For the occasion, the pair appeared to have taken some rather strict measures to ensure their safety – with a high-profile NYPD escort accompanying their SUV fleet to the event venue at Hudson Yards.

Questions still remain about Harry and Meghan’s account of the chase, which was described as “nearly catastrophic” in a statement from the couple’s spokesperson.

The spokesperson said the couple, as well as Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, were victims of a “relentless pursuit lasting over two hours” by “very aggressive paparazzi.”

It has been suggested that they were trying not to be followed to their residence on the city’s Upper East Side.

However, New York police subsequently told NBC that they did not believe the chase was “nearly catastrophic,” describing it instead as a “bit of a chaotic scene.”

Julian Phillips, New York’s deputy commissioner for public information, also revealed that the NYPD was “assisting” the couple’s private security team.

Meanwhile, New York Mayor Eric Adams expressed empathy – describing the paparazzi’s actions as “reckless” and “irresponsible” – but said he would find it “hard to believe” that a two-hour chase high speed occurred.

For the event, Harry and Meghan seemingly took every precaution, arriving at Hudson Yards in a fleet of blacked-out vehicles, driving straight into an underground garage, where they were quickly surrounded by several security guards.
