The feature is called Photo Stacks and it essentially creates mini albums based on when the photos were taken.

It helps group similar photos taken in a short time, for example on the same day.

Photo Stacks organizes photos in a similar way to how Apple sorts photos in the For You section of its native Photo Album app.

Users can stack up to 100 photos on top of each other, Google told Android Authority.

It's important to note that photo stacks cannot organize images until the images are backed up first.

The feature does not work on locally saved images.

Google explains how to backup photos on a help page on its website.

Since the feature's launch in November, it has been available to iPhone owners and some Android users, such as Pixel phones.

But Google is now rolling out Photo Stacks on Google Photos for Android phones broadly, including Samsung handsets.
