The bank's customers in the city will now have to travel to the branch 30 miles away in Carmarthen.

A spokesperson said: “In Haverfordwest we are planning to open a Barclays Local.

“It will be a cashless banking site where customers can meet a colleague face-to-face for banking support, as they would in a branch and without having to travel.

“We are currently working with the local community to find a suitable location and will announce details as soon as they are confirmed.”

“All our regular customers will receive a letter, our decision to close document and posters will be displayed in the branches.

“Colleagues are ready to help customers with any problems.

“We will proactively work with local businesses and the wider community to discuss the alternative ways customers can manage their banking locally.

“We will also offer virtual digital support sessions for customers who want to explore digital banking and other alternatives to branch banking.”

The spokesperson added that only 32 regular customers used the Haverfordwest branch to do all their banking.

The town has seven other banks and Barclays customers can still use the local post office for everyday transactions.

It comes after villagers said they were left with no money after Barclays suddenly closed their bank account – claiming they were promised to send them £14,000 but it never arrived.

A man says it took just 20 minutes for £1.6million to disappear from his bank account. He claims he asked Barclays for help but the matter was “closed”.
