Divisions have emerged in Congress, with some party leaders openly criticizing the functioning of the Sukhu government.

Amid a fresh tussle for power in the state, Himachal Pradesh Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh announced on Wednesday that he is resigning from the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu cabinet, but hours later said he will not push for his resignation .

“I am submitting my resignation to the prime minister and the governor,” he told reporters in the morning.

Hours later, after a meeting with the central monitors, Singh said he would not push for the resignation.

“I have tendered my resignation but Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has not accepted it,” he said.

Vikramaditya Singh said the central monitors have assured him that his concerns will be taken into account and he is not pushing for his resignation, adding that the organization is more important than individuals.

“In the greater interest, I will not push for my resignation,” he told media earlier in the day.

He had earlier said that attempts had been made from some quarters to humiliate and undermine him, and despite his reservations, he supported the government.

Troubles have been mounting in the Congress since Tuesday when it lost the lone Rajya Sabha seat to the BJP with six of its members voting against each other in the polls.

Vikramaditya Singh, while announcing his resignation, said he was “deeply hurt” by the events of the past two days and said there is a need to reflect on what went wrong for the Congress.

He said he has apprised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi about the developments. The ball is now in the court of the party high command, he added.

“The Congress party had made promises to the people and we owe the responsibility to fulfill those promises. I would decide my future course of action after consulting my supporters,” Vikramaditya Singh said.

He said the 2022 assembly elections in the state were fought in the name of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, also his father.

“There wasn’t a poster, billboard or banner that didn’t have his picture on it. A day before the vote, there was a full-page advertisement with his photo in the newspapers,” he said.

But after the victory, when the issue of installing his statue came up, the government failed to determine its location.

“It is not a political matter but an emotional one for a son,” said Vikramaditya Singh.

He also quoted a couplet from the last Mughal emperor of India, Bahadur Shah Zafar: “Kitna hai bad-naseeb ‘Zafar’ dafn ke liye, do gaz zaameen bhi na mili kuch-e-yaar mein.”

Divisions have emerged in Congress, with some party leaders openly criticizing the functioning of the Sukhu government.

Vikramaditya Singh has expressed concerns over the functioning of the government even as Congress president Pratibha Singh, his mother, had repeatedly urged to reward the organization’s dedicated leaders who worked hard for the party’s victory.

She even said that party leaders and MLAs are unhappy as their concerns are not being addressed.

Earlier, Vikramaditya Singh, angry over the omission of some sections in the budget, had blamed negligence on the part of some officers and said they had taken due note of it.

He had told PTI that multi-functional employees of the public works department (PWD) have been left out in the budget and no reference has been made to the job seekers sitting on dharnas for early declaration of results, a day after the budget was decided. presented.

Two of the six Congress MLAs who cross-voted for BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan on Tuesday — Rajender Rana and Sudhir Sharma — were also outspoken against the government and had supported the candidates’ protest ahead of the announcement of results of various posts .

Congress MLA Rajinder Rana from Sujanpur Assembly seat had sent a letter to the Chief Minister stating that even after 14 months of government formation, the youth are still waiting for jobs.

“We had promised to provide employment to one million youth every year. The youth of the state are eagerly waiting for the fulfillment of that promise,” he had said in the letter which was also posted on Facebook.
