How the Princess of Wales’s Trooping the Color ensemble offered a chic nod to a new military role
The Princess of Wales paid a stylish tribute to her new military role during Trooping the Color for the King’s birthday yesterday.
Kate Middleton, 41, was effortlessly elegant in an emerald green, satiny dress and matching hat — which she adorned with a gold Cartier three-leaf clover brooch.
The all-green ensemble suggests a chic nod to her role as a colonel of the Irish Guards – which she took over from her husband at the end of last year.
Her shamrock decoration – which the mother-of-three has often worn for St. Patrick’s Day festivities – is considered special because it is said to have been loaned to Royals, rather than belonging to them.
According to City & CountryLauren Kiehna, who runs the site The court jewellerexplained that the pin belongs to the regiment which has been ‘lent to royal ladies’ with it.

However, the outlet explains that it seems unclear who the first owner of the brooch is – despite it being worn by the firm for decades, including the Queen Mother and Princess Anne.
Kate also paid a sweet tribute to her late mother-in-law during yesterday’s festivities.
The royal looked delighted as she traveled with Queen Camilla and her three children to the Horse Guards Parade.
Her husband, the Prince of Wales, was nearby on horseback with King Charles.
Prince Georgenine, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louisfive, behaved well as they rode the carriage through the Mall – waving and smiling to the onlookers.
Kate made a nod to Princess Diana with her outfit, accompanied by a pair of sapphire earrings that once belonged to her late mother-in-law.
Yesterday’s event was the first Trooping the Color after Queen Elizabeth II’s death last September – and King Charles’ inaugural birthday parade.
She later took to the balcony of Buckingham Palace for a military flypast involving about 70 aircraft from the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force.

Kate’s three children were also spotted arriving at the event together, waving enthusiastically to royal fans.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the plane took off from 15 locations in the UK before meeting in the south east of England and flying through London.

The event featured a mix of aircraft ranging from the 1940s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the C-130 Hercules on its last ceremonial flight to multiple Typhoon fighter jets and the Envoy IV CC1, making its flypast debut.
At the front of the flypast was a Juno HT1 piloted by Flight Lieutenant Tom Knapp of No 60 Squadron, No 1 Flying Training School based at RAF Shawbury.
The event ended in a show of red, white and blue from the pilots of the Red Arrows.
The Ministry of Defense said many of the aircraft taking part in the flypast this year have been involved in operations around the world, including the NATO air policing mission in Eastern Europe and the evacuation of British citizens from Sudan.
The annual event of Trooping the Color has marked the official birthday of the sovereign for over 260 years.
