Located in Monte Cristallo, one of the highest peaks of the Cristallo massif in the Dolomites, the hut overlooks a sharp and deadly drop to the depths below.

It is believed that the unique structure was built by Italian soldiers during the war World War 1 and made of brick and wood.

But onlookers were baffled at how people managed to carry materials for a sloping roof, two doorways and four windows onto the treacherous site.

And because there is no back door to an easier access route, the story becomes even more impressive.

But even though it may not look like much from the outside, the breathtaking views and sheer uniqueness of the house definitely make it one of a kind.

Granted, it’s nothing special on the inside, but the chances of you encountering something similar anywhere else in the world are slim.

Should you own the peak suitability which allows you to climb to the top of the mountain and access the isolated shelter. You will find a narrow room with a number of wooden chairs.

Besides having enough room for a handful of people to sleep, there isn’t much else to fit within the four walls of the small house.

But that’s probably because it wasn’t built for living, more for staying.

Several refuges such as the one on Monte Cristallo were built during the armed conflict between the Italians and AustrianHungarians known as the White War.

‘Got from heaven to hell,’ say locals of a ‘ghost town’ turned war zone

Soldiers used rope ladders and cable cars to access the difficult-to-reach location, where they could stockpile supplies and hide from the enemy.

Although it seems impossible to reach from a distance, in reality there is a very well hidden but narrow mountain path that runs just a few meters below.

It is part of the Via Ferrata Ivano Dibona, a difficult mountain route that requires a “high level of fitness” and mountaineering experience.

You’ll find a route consisting of steel ladders, rungs and cables built into the rock face to aid climbers on their journey.

Anyway, Buffa di Perrero is reachable if you are brave enough.

It may seem like it could easily be blown away during a storm, but this little house has held its own for over a century and will likely remain untouched for centuries to come.

Elsewhere a woman who built her own cabin from scratch to live off-grid in the woods has provided insight into her unusual lifestyle.

Zorya, from the United Stateseven revealed how she deals with visits from bears on a daily basis.

And one family left Britain to build a £30,000 wilderness hut to raise their toddler 7,000 miles away South America.

They have now finally completed their DIY cabin, surrounded by woods in a remote part of Chili.
