How to play Fortnite on your Nintendo Switch

THE Nintendo Switch is making numerous free games available to players, including fan-favorite battle royale title Fortnite.

Whether you’re new to the Switch or new to Fortnite, setting up and playing the game on the console is quick and easy.

As you’ve probably noticed, Fortnite is a digital-only game, so you won’t find it on the shelves of Argos or CEX.

This means you’ll need to download it from Nintendo’s eShop, available through your Switch console, before you can play it.

To do that, you’ll need to log into your Nintendo Account on the Switch.

It is important to note that you must be logged into the account you want to play Fortnite on.

Then select the Nintendo eShop icon on the console and use the search bar to find Fortnite.

Once you find it, just tap the Free Download button.

You will then be taken to a confirmation screen, where you will need to press Free Download again.

It will be installed from there, as long as you have enough storage space.

Free up storage space on Nintendo Switch

Here are three ways to free up storage space on your Switch and get the most out of Nintendo’s massive game library

First, it’s important to remember that storage requirements vary from game to game, but they may as well a lot of bigger than others.

Information about specific game storage requirements can always be found on the game packaging or in Nintendo eShop.

Remark: Always make sure you have the required storage space before purchasing a game.

  1. Expand the available memory on your Nintendo Switch console by purchasing a microSD card.
    • A microSD card can be used to store screenshots and software data, including downloaded software, software updates, and DLC.
  2. Remove or archive files you are not currently using.
  3. Delete game save data from the console’s system memory, as it cannot be saved or copied to a microSD card.
    • To free up space in system memory, go to System Settings > Data Management > Delete Saved Data.

Pro tip: You don’t have to keep your Nintendo Switch powered on to download Fortnite; installation continues even in sleep mode.

Although the download may pause if you use another app or game that requires Wi-Fi.

When installed, the Fortnite app will appear in your Switch library without a loading bar underneath.

Create an Epic Games account

While you wait for the game to download, you can create an Epic Games account.

You need this account to play Fortnite as it is used to store all your progress and user data.

If you already have an account from your mobile, PC, Xbox or PlayStation, you will need to link it to your Nintendo Switch.

To create the account, go to the EpicGames website via your phone or computer.

Select Sign in and fill in the required information, such as your name, email address and password.

You will receive an email to the address you provided. This is needed to set up your account.

Once you select the link in the email, the Epic Games website will open in a new browser tab and you will be automatically logged in.

From the left menu, select Connected accounts.

Then select Connect under all the video game networks you want to play Fortnite on using the same account.

Now that your Epic Games account is set up and connected to your Nintendo Account, you can now access Fortnite on your Nintendo Switch.

Tap the Fortnite icon on your Nintendo Switch home screen to open and play the game.
