2023 parliamentary election results: Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said he humbly accepted Congress’s defeat in the three Hindi heartland states but asserted that the party’s ideological battle with the BJP would continue.

“We humbly accept the mandate from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan – the struggle for ideology will continue,” the Gandhi scion said in a post on in the Assembly. elections.

In Telangana, where the Congress ended the decade-long rule of Bharath Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Rahul Gandhi assured that the party will fulfill its promise of making “Prajalu Telangana”.

“I am very grateful to the people of Telangana – we will fulfill the promise of making Prajalu Telangana. Thank you to all the employees for their hard work and support,” the Wayanad MP posted on X.

According to the latest trends from the Election Commission, the incumbent BJP is poised to retain power in Madhya Pradesh with a two-third majority and is likely to wrest power from the rival Congress in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

Meanwhile, the Congress ‘Hand’ is about to bring the BRS’ ‘Car’ to a firm halt in Telangana as the old party looks set to secure a comfortable majority in the southern state.

Counting votes in the four states that went to the polls last month started at 8 a.m. on Sunday.

BJP juggernaut rolls into Hindi heartland

The BJP plans to sweep all three states in the Hindi heartland – retaining power in Madhya Pradesh and heading for comfortable majorities in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.

In Madhya Pradesh, the incumbent dispensation led by Shivraj Chouhan leads in 163 of the 230 seats, while the party leads in 53 of the 90 seats in Chhattisgarh and 114 of the 199 seats in Rajasthan.

Exit polls had given the Congress an edge in Chhattisgarh, but according to the latest updates from the poll panel, the ruling party continues to lag behind the opposition BJP, leading in just 36 seats. The BJP has made a strong recovery in Chhattisgarh, where the ruling Congress was expected to retain power. A strong, sustained and aggressive campaign and associated election promises from Congress appear to have worked for the party.

Rajasthan appears to have followed the more than three-decade-old trend of rotating governments and the Congress government led by Ashok Gehlot appears to be on the decline.

The BJP is on course to set a record high in Madhya Pradesh and is expected to retain power again after ruling the state for eighteen of the last twenty years, while the Congress under former CM Kamal Nath – which is expected to have a tough would give battle to the ruling party – seems to have meekly surrendered, with a lead of only 65 seats.

The Congress, which is in power in Rajasthan, appears to be on its way out, leading with just 70 seats.

The Congress is on the verge of dethroning the BRS in Telangana

The Congress is poised to win Telangana for the first time, a shock to the ruling BRS, which has been in power in India’s youngest state for the past decade.

In Telangana, the Congress benefited from anti-incumbency against the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi, with leader A Revanth Reddy seen as a fierce critic of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. The victory in Karnataka in the assembly elections earlier this year enthused the Congress workers in Telangana and the party mounted a strong campaign, supported by its leaders from different parts of the country.

According to the latest trends from the Election Commission, Congress is leading in 69 of the 119 seats, BRS in 39, BJP in nine, AIMIM in four and CPI in one.

While the Congress will be happy with the expected victory in Telangana, the loss in the Hindi heartland states months before the Lok Sabha elections is a source of concern for the party.

Of the large part of the Hindi heartland, the Congress is in power only in Himachal Pradesh and is part of the government in Bihar.

The counting in Mizoram, which went to the polls last month, will take place on Monday.
