A father has sparked a heated debate after revealing his plans to abandon his wife and child after discovering the girl may not be biologically his.

The anonymous man, who is believed to be from the US, shared further Reddit that during a hyped-up argument with his wife, she had hinted that their nine-year-old child might not be his.

Upon further investigation, the man discovered that his wife's suspicions were true and he is now considering filing for divorce.

However, this move would potentially leave his ex and the child he once believed to be his daughter homeless.

Reddit users slammed the dad in the comments, labeling him “completely confused” and “obviously a bad dad.”

The man, 37, explained: 'We were married for ten years and we have a daughter aged nine and ten.

'My wife and I were arguing and she said something about my daughter not being mine. I kept a straight face, but after she realized what she said, she left and went to bed.

'I never thought about my daughter not being mine, but I had to know whether she was or not.

'Long story short, I got a paternity test and I wasn't her father. I showed it to my wife, who begged and begged me not to divorce, but I told her I did.”

After sharing the heartbreaking news with friends and family, the man says they all encouraged him to cut his ex-wife and her daughter out of his life.

He continued, “I don't want to raise a child that isn't mine, nor do I want to pay for her.

“My wife keeps calling me and telling me not to make her and our child homeless, but I don't care if she's homeless or not, she shouldn't have cheated.”

Before asking the forum members for their opinion, the man revealed that the girl's real father had died a few years ago.

The man explained that even though he raised the young girl for nine years and her biological father is dead, he has no desire to raise or pay for a child who is not biologically his.

Many flocked to the comments, shocked by what the man had said about a child he had raised for nine years.

“That poor little girl. She doesn't know you're not her dad,” one person wrote.

“Woman is a ******, but you may not be your daughter's biological father, but to her you are Are her father,” wrote a second.

Another said: 'This is what makes me sad. He is not upset or heartbroken.

'He is angry. He should be sad that she isn't, because he loves her. Poor kid'

'Yes, he clearly doesn't love her. The hard part is that she probably adores him. This is going to destroy her,” one Reddit user replied.

Someone wondered, “You raised that child for ten years and would be okay with never seeing her again? As she grew up and realized she wasn't worth staying in your life?

Others were baffled by the man's thought process, with one person claiming they could never 'cut off' a child they raised.

Reddit users branded the man a 'terrible father', with some even going so far as to say the girl would be better off without him

They added: 'Of course I would be devastated and definitely not stay married. But the little girl would still be 'mine.'

Another labeled him a “terrible father” who never tried to “connect with his daughter.”

They joked: '[He] would probably make her life a little worse if she got involved in it.'

Some users were keen to point out that while the young girl may not biologically belong to the man, he may still be legally responsible for her well-being.

“I'm not sure where you are, but you may still be financially responsible for any child your wife has while you were married.”
