An incredible cruise ship called “City on the Sea” has been rotting for decades, but the wreckage can still be seen in satellite images.

The glory days of Mediterranean Sea Skyalso known as City of York, are far behind, but the shipwreck still attracts people.

Once a beautiful cruise ship, it has now become one of the most famous shipwrecks in the world Greece.

The City of York was built in 1953 by Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering of Barrow-in-Furness in the Britain.

In 1971 the ship was sold to the Greek cruise company Karageorgis Lines, who converted it into a passenger ferry.

The floating palace had an incredible journey after traveling in between England, South Africa, Mozambique And Spain in addition to its three sister ships: the City of Port Elizabeth, the City of Exeter and the City of Durban.

It once traveled from London to Cape Town in as many as fifteen days.

The passenger boat had the most modern facilities for that time, including: luxury cabins, two swimming swimming pools, opulent bars and air conditioning.

The size of the ship was equally impressive, with a length of 180 meters and a beam of 22 meters.

It can accommodate up to 1,000 guests on board and 470 vehicles.

The flashy interior of the cruise ship and its grandiose enticements the rich and famous of the 1970s.

Famous people rented the boat during the winter months.

The City of York was also the first cruise ship to sail the now famous route between Patras, Greece and Venice. Italy.

But in August 1996 the liner would make its last voyage from Patras to Brindisi in Greece.

After the owners encountered financial problems, the ship lay idle in the waters of the old port of Patras for three years.

It was then transferred to Elefsina in 2002, where it remains to this day.

The now abandoned ship was towed into shallow water and purposefully beached.

The City of York gradually began to tilt until it capsized and partially sank in January 2003.

Nowadays the wreck lies completely tilted on the starboard side.

Christopher Willson bought the cruise ship – complete with 85 cabins – on Craigslist more than 14 years ago – and the painstaking renovations are only half complete.

Although many of the rooms were impossible for looters to access due to their steep angle, the interiors were plundered almost immediately after the ship sank.
